JOIN AYA-PACT


Thank you for your interest in participating in research!
​Before you decide to participate, it is important for you to understand the purpose of the AYA-PACT project and what is involved. Please take the time to read the brochure and website carefully and discuss with others if you wish. Your participation is voluntary and your decision to participate will not affect your medical care in any way. The brochure can be found here. 

Who Can Participate? 

We are looking for individuals who: 
  • Are living in Alberta 
  • Were diagnosed with a first invasive cancer between 15-39 years of age in Alberta 
  • Have completed active cancer directed therapy (chemo, radiation, and/or surgery)  
  • Are able to engage safely in physical activity
  • Have access to the internet on at least a weekly basis 
  • Have a mobile phone with a text messaging plan 
  • Are willing to be randomized to either the control group or intervention group 

What Are The Benefits? 

Everyone who participates in the study will receive a Polar Unite Activity Tracker to keep and will receive information on their physical fitness at the 12-month time point. 

Receive a small gift card honorarium for each study time point completed for a total of $50 over the course of the study. 

If randomized to the intervention group you may see improvements in the following: 
  • Improved cardiovascular fitness levels
  • Decreased body fat percentage
  • Feel less fatigue 
  • Improved sleep quality  
Please note that you may also experience no direct benefit from participating in the study 

What Are The Risks? 

Exercise is generally very safe for most people, even those who may not have been previously active

If randomized to the intervention group you may experience the following: 
  • Sore muscles 
  • Joint problems 
  • Injury related to the exercise
  • Cardiac side effects 
Stop exercise immediately if you feel any severe or adverse effects due to the intervention and contact your Doctor and the study staff for further guidance.  

How Do I Join?

  • Contact the study team and indicate your interest in participating 
  • They will schedule you for a virtual consultation to review the study eligibility criteria, study expectations, procedures and consent form with you. 
  • You can agree to participate immediately or contact us again later after you have decided.
