Accelerometers 

An Actigraph accelerometer device will be mailed out to you prior to each fitness testing appointment and at the 24 month time point for you to wear, please carefully read and follow the instructions sent with device. If you have further questions on how to wear the device contact us at 403-476-2746.

Fitness Testing Appointment

Preliminary Instructions 
  1. Eat a light meal at least 2 hours prior to your appointment 
  2. Wear clothes suitable for activity - running shoes, shorts/leggings and a short sleeve shirt 
  3. Refrain from caffeine (coffee, tea, cola etc), cigarettes, recreational cannabis, and vaping 2 hours prior to the appointment 
  4. Refrain from strenuous exercise and alcohol 6 hours prior to the appointment 
  5. Take your daily medications as you would normally  
Fitness Testing Part 1
(Approx. 1.5 - 2 hours)

Prescreening 
  • PAR-Q Questionnaire
  • Resting Heart Rate
  • ​Resting Blood Pressure  
Anthropometrics
  • Height and Weight 
  • Waist and Hip Circumference 
  • DXA Scan (Calgary site only) 
Upper Body Maximal Strength
  • Grip Strength 
Aerobic Fitness 
  • Maximal Aerobic Fitness Treadmill Test 

Lunch / Questionnaire Break
​(1 hour) 

During the required break between fitness assessments, we will ask you to complete questionnaires on a provided iPad or laptop, at this time you can eat lunch or have a snack. 
Fitness Testing Part 2
(Approx. 1 - 1.5 hours)

Muscle Strength

Chest Press - 10 Repetition Max Test 
Leg Press - 10 Repetition Max Test 
Muscle Endurance 
Chest Press - 50% of Estimated 1 Repetition Max 
Leg Press - 70% of Estimated 1 Repetition Max
